Public Information
from the donor: "Dennis Zavac and I were married June 29, 1985 at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City. My Gown was white satin with reembroidered Alencon lace. I used my experience in creating costumes for Vassar Drama Department productions to desgin the gown. I had been a member of the St. Bart's Players in New York, and Mary Whitehead, who created costumes for the troupe, advised me on the design and made the dress. The veil, four yards long and wide, was modeled on the veil my mother wore in 1940 and contained tiny waxen orange blossoms from that veil. The lace in my headdress was also part of my mother's veil and may have been worn my my great-great aunt at her 1877 wedding. It came from my great-great uncle's store, Chas. T. Jones, Glover & Ladies Outfitter, located at 1163 & 1165 Broadway, NYC, during the latter half of the 19th century. Not knowing what you want to focus on in the gowns/veils, I've enclosed copies of a variety of pictures, formal and informal for you to choose from. I love wedding dresses and am very much excited to seeing this exhibit at Reunion. Please contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Bets Howland."
