from the donor: "My grandmother was a Vassar graduate -- class of 1913. She attended Vassar as Dorothy Titus and was known as "Dar." She was the first of her class to marry (on June 30, 1913) and she wore a gorgeous gown. Her wedding picture is attached. She married an Englishman named Hamilton Webb, and my father, Hamilton Brookholding Webb, was the first baby born to a member of the class of 1913 (his birthday was April 2, 1914).
I was named Dorothy Titus Webb for my grandmother and have always been known as Dar, as she was. I graduated from Vassar in the class of 1968 and married for the first time 30 years later at the improbable age of 51. My wedding was decidedly less romantic than my grandmother's. After a somewhat long engagement (we'd been living together for almost twenty years) my partner in life -- Clint Page -- and I trundled off to a justice of the peace on December 17, 1998. I (correctly) reasoned that my husband-to-be would rather not celebrate his marriage to a bride wearing blue jeans, so I broke out my favorite khaki slacks -- a big concession on my part. My niece later advised me to hang them on a padded hangar in the back of my closet so that future generations of brides could wear them. Our attendants were my father (that same first child of the class of 1913), my stepmother, and my husband's daughter Christine. We all went out for a pizza afterwards.
People ask me why Clint and I married after such a long time together unmarried. We like to say it was to make two very special people -- our accountant and our lawyer -- happy.
