Black bodice with black embroidery on chest, shoulders, and wrists. Embroidery includes diamond shapes and flowers. Pleating on chest and by shoulders and wrists. High neck with white net at very top front. Separate matching belt. Label within designates it as made at 865 Broadway in New York City by John Forsythe- this was only a business there from 1899-1910 and so this piece was made in those 11 years.

I wore a green herringbone tweed suit made by a local Edinburgh tailor, and my partner wore a bespoke suit his father had made for him when he was 18 (which still fit). There were at least 10 Vassar grads in attendance. We had a Scottish Episcopal ceremony at which Jews and atheists took communion, and we were somewhat unofficially the first openly gay ceremony to be performed in a church in Scotland.
The inset photo on the fourth page is from our version of a rehearsal dinner -- a drinks party in a Victorian greenhouse two nights before the wedding. I'm wearing a seersucker suit by Dries van Noten.

A photograph of Ben Morse (VC Class of 1993) and Richard Mason, with the bus that transported party guests for their wedding (civil partnership) ceremony on September 23, 2007 in Glasgow, Scotland, which was unofficially the first openly gay ceremony to be performed in a church in Scotland. He had a green herringbone tweed suit made by a local Edinburgh tailor, and his partner still fit into the bespoke suit his father had made for him when he was 18.

There is a lot left still to be learned about this dress. The lines of the dress are very unconventional and deliberate. This dress is a bit of an outlier as it has Aesthetic elements about it (such as the flowers and the patterns in the lace modesty panel) and yet the construction of the bodice is not quite free flowing enough to be fully Aesthetic. Perhaps the skirt, with its swirling illusion, is what keeps it in firmly in the aesthetic realm.��To preserve this dress, first the collar and modesty panel were reinforced with conservation net. The skirt lining has barely survived and must be replaced if it is to be mounted again. Various colors of thread were used to trace the complicated manner in which the outer skirt is attached to the inner skirt. Next, the inner skirt lining will be removed and used as a pattern to create a new lining. ��Researched and Stabilized by Emily Leimkuhler ‘10

One example of women's fashion for camping and recreation that allowed for the dual purposes of appearing feminine as well as being practical for physical activity was the divided skirt. This one is made by the camping company 'Kamp-it'which was a sister brand to the popular sporting goods company Duxbak, which was regularly advertised in the many outdoors magazines in the early twentieth century and made lighter more fashionable camping clothing targeted mainly towards women. The function of the dress allows for feminine ascetics while at the same time providing for the use of physical activity. The divided skirt is a 'full flared paneled skirt with culottes pants underneath, pants of the back attach to the skirt of the front at the front buttons…' This skirt gives the appearance of a typical full skirt for women's fashion, although plainer and made out a sturdy gold cotton twill to make it durable, but it also functions as pants for camping when the front flap is unbuttoned. This divided skirt represents the struggle between the femininity and functioning in women's sportswear, that arouse as a result of the rise of leisure and recreation and women's growing participation in it.
