<text>from the donor: "Hi,

I think this is a great idea — I just got married myself and am fascinated by what other people wear to their weddings.

I'm Iman, class of 2003. Although we both live in Toronto, my parents were keen on having the wedding at home in Pakistan so as to grant my nani's perennial wish of seeing a grandchild get married. My gorgeous husband Noorez and I tied the knot on March 7, 2013, in a beautiful 4-day wedding in Karachi. I slept for about a week afterwards.

At the "qawwali" event, where traditional folk singer Fareed Ayaz (featured in the film The Reluctant Fundamentalist) came to our house for a private concert, I wore a turqoise sleeveless kameez by Pakistani designer Shamsha Hashwani.

At the actual 'wedding' function, I wore a hand-worked gold lame sari by Pakistani couture bridal designer Bunto Kazmi. Noorez wore a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo. My jewellery is traditional Indian hand-crafted 'kundan', made of refined gold, whch is a style popular with Rajasthani royalty. A couple of pics attached. I attached some of the decor of both nights too just in case. The purple-ish one is of our garden, covered in carpet, on the qawwali night.

Can't wait to see the costume collection.

Best,

Iman</text>

Below are two photos from my wedding day, both taken at the Chapel.
My dress was made from silk duppioni and chiffon imported from France, and the most important fact about my dress is that my Mother made it! She is a skilled seamstress and does beautiful needlework.
The sleeves and train were all handrolled and stitched from gossamer silk chiffon.
I remember that dress and that day with great fondness. ... the magnificent architecture, the sounds of the venerable organ and a most excellent bridegroom who has continued to be a most excellent husband!

I am attaching a piece Italian Vanity Fair published on my wedding (civil partnership). Wedding was in Glasgow, Scotland, on 23 Sept 2007; piece was published 11 Oct 2007. Also attaching the English translation.

I wore a green herringbone tweed suit made by a local Edinburgh tailor, and my partner wore a bespoke suit his father had made for him when he was 18 (which still fit). There were at least 10 Vassar grads in attendance. We had a Scottish Episcopal ceremony at which Jews and atheists took communion, and we were somewhat unofficially the first openly gay ceremony to be performed in a church in Scotland.

The inset photo on the fourth page is from our version of a rehearsal dinner -- a drinks party in a Victorian greenhouse two nights before the wedding. I'm wearing a seersucker suit by Dries van Noten.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

It was my mother-in-law’s, circa mid-fifties, and she had been a Southern belle from Bowling Green, KY marrying that Italian (Eye-talian according to her father) from NYC whom she met while they were both interning at Columbia-Presbyterian. So this dress had petticoats, it had hoops, it had lead weights inside it hanging from strings to keep the bodice from riding up above the petticoats. The skirt took up the whole church aisle. My dad had to walk behind me to give me away because he couldn’t fit beside me. Of course it had the prerequisite 8,000 cloth-covered buttons on the back. The most amazing thing was the zig-zags of lace that ran throughout the skirt and inset into it somehow – not just appliqued on it. I did kind of make it my own by bringing the neckline down during tailoring so it hit me just right on the sides of my shoulders. I got to wear it because I was marrying the first of her four sons to make the commitment.

Thirteen years after the divorce I still adore my mother-in-law, as amazing a combination of strong and generous and sweet as I have ever met, and who eventually forgave me for messing up the marriage. It helps that I gave her two grandsons (one who just completed Vassar, one about to start) that she is just crazy about."

<text>from the donor: "1987 – It got so by the end of the evening if I heard one more person toast “the Dress” while making little mention of me, the bride in it, HELLO… Actually the dress was amazing.
