Cream Corset
Description
An account of the resource
This is a cream cotton underbust corset with attached garters. Along with the back lacing, thee are lacing panels on either side of the busk and at the sides-back. These extra lacing sections are laced with a somewhat elastic braid. All the lacing eyelets are metal. The front busk extends a little over halfway down the center front. The rest of the way down is large hook and eyes. There are panels inside the corset attached at the side seams, with lacing to adjust size and hooks and eyes to fasten the panels together at center front underneath the outer closures. The multiple extra panels of lacing suggest that this was a maternity corset. There is a tag inside which reads "Ideal, Size 26" and a stamp on a boning channel which says "Duplex Boning." There is a strip of eyelet lace around the top edge of the corset.

Black bodice with black embroidery on chest, shoulders, and wrists. Embroidery includes diamond shapes and flowers. Pleating on chest and by shoulders and wrists. High neck with white net at very top front. Separate matching belt. Label within designates it as made at 865 Broadway in New York City by John Forsythe- this was only a business there from 1899-1910 and so this piece was made in those 11 years.

Catherine Donovan was one of the most prolific designers and clothing distributors of New York City high society in the late 19th century. This dress, from her 5th Avenue location, was worn by Emeline Livingston for her 1877 wedding.

Livingston Family Wedding Dress
Description
An account of the resource
This is a cream satin wedding dress from the late 1870s with lace, faux flowers, and faux pearl details. The faux flowers adorn the neckline, each sleeve, and the front of the skirt bordering a pleated center panel. The lace is found at the cuff of each sleeve as well as the neckline, the back of which is adorned with the pearls. There are satin ribbons wrapped around each cuff and tied into a bow. The bodice and skirt are separate at the front, where the bodice laces closed, and there is a hook and eye closure at the center back of the skirt and at the ends of a ribbon attached to the bodice lining where the maker information is stamped. The back of the skirt features a 17.5"bustle at center back of the waistline and the fabric below is pleated down to the hem of the train. The entire hem of the skirt features two layers of accordion pleated satin. There are layers and layers of lace and ruffles lining the train and the ? makes up the rest of the skirt's lining. The bodice is lined in ?? The cream muslin petticoat has panels of lace with a bow pattern along the bottom half, a mint green ribbon fed through a channel created with the first panel of lace, and a grosgrain ribbon side closure.

Cream Floral and Lace Ensemble
Description
An account of the resource
This is a cream blouse with a natural waist, bateau neckline, peter pan collar, and elbow-length sleeves. The bodice, sleeves, and collar are made of a silk chiffon with green, red, and purple floral print and decorated with cream lace and embroidered polka dots. There are four layers of lace at the base of the sleeves and white embroidered flowers on the collar. There is an ombre burgundy ribbon around the waist with tassels at the end, hook and eye closures down the center back and on the ribbon and an internal ribbon with a buckle. The matching cream skirt has a machine embroidered polka dot motif, as well as a green, purple, and red flower pattern on the outer skirt layer. There are two types of lace hand sewn onto the outer layer meant to suggest an overskirt design. Both types of lace have floral motifs. The Inner skirt is layered to create volume using silk and lace. The underskirt has a pleated section near the hem. The front is slightly shorter than the back. The skirt closes at center back with a hook and eye and has an extra eye to attach the skirt to the bodice.
