Gift of Martha Stockwell Mumford, VC Class of 1924

This dress was worn by Martha Stockwell (Mumford) ’24 for Class Day 1924. Class Day was a long standing Vassar tradition where the graduating class would gather together for the last time before graduation, to celebrate their history and achievements. The day included different activities at different times throughout Vassar’s history, including speeches, plays, the dedication of the class tree, and even the Daisy Chain. This 1924 Class Day dress captures a transitional moment, where the Class Day dresses start to become more colorful.
